FRP Bridge Decking Planks for a pedestrian bridge and cycle bridge

During a bridge inspection in 2012 in Crailsheim, Germany, the bridge's wooden cladding was found to be very badly damaged. In addition to holes and cracks in the surface that created an increased risk of accidents, in some sections of the main girders even the glue joints had opened. These openings were caused by years of lateral rainfall, which bridges are exposed to year in and year out. We are particularly proud of this FRP Bridge Deck reference owing to the variety of work we completed for this project abroad.

During the 2015 renovation, we replaced the current wooden bridge planks with durable FRP Bridge Decking Elements, type krafton® 500.55. We also protected the side sections of the bridge using sheet metal covers, installed from above. The FRP Bridge Decking Elements and the sheet metal covers were treated with an additional coating during production, to protect them against weather effects and heavy use. In this way, we were able to guarantee long-lasting and safe use of the pedestrian and cycle bridge with FRP Bridge Decking.

We tightly clamped the intermediate FRP Bridge Decking Elements to the cyclist bridge by attaching the outer two rows to the existing girders with stainless steel screws. Thanks to this assembly method, we managed to deliver the renovated bridge within a short time frame. Moreover, we have prevented permanent moisture build-up by installing a sloping EPFM foil on the stiffening timber. The bridge was soon returned to use by pedestrians and cyclists.
